Application of Plate Heat Exchanger in Corn refining industry

The syrup processed from starch is called starch syrup. It is a colorless, transparent and viscous liquid processed by hydrolysis and decolorization of starch. It has a soft sweetness and is easy to be directly absorbed by the human body. The raw material for producing syrup in traditional industries is mainly sucrose, but the source of raw materials is limited. The improvement of the production process of starch syrup provides more choices for sugar used in the food industry. The raw material for producing starch syrup is starch, and any starch-containing crops, such as corn, rice, cassava, and potatoes, can be used to produce syrup.

The plate heat exchanger has the advantages of compact structure and small volume, so it is widely used in the corn refining industry. In the production of corn starch, it is used for various processes, such as heating of sulfurous acid, corn conveying water, heating of starch washing water, cooling of starch milk and concentrated gluten liquid, etc.

In the production of maltodextrin, starch syrup and glucose, plate heat exchangers are being used for preheating or cooling of syrup. In ethanol production, the heat exchanger is used as ethanol reboiler and ethanol condenser.

Plate evaporators have been widely used on some evaporation processes. Which includes evaporative concentration of corn liquor, the evaporative concentration of maltodextrin before spray drying, the evaporative concentration of maltose syrup, and the evaporative concentration of anhydrous glucose and crystalline glucose.

Due to the high heat transfer coefficient of the plate heat exchanger, the plate heat exchanger provides reliable equipment for waste heat recovery. Plate evaporators can use waste heat as a heating source for evaporation and concentration. The high-temperature exhaust gas discharged from the tube bundle dryer can be used as a heat source for evaporation and concentration of corn steep liquor, or the exhaust gas discharged from the spray drying tower can be used as a heat source for evaporation and concentration of maltodextrin before drying. In the production of ethanol, the exhaust gas of the tube bundle dryer can also be used as a heat source for evaporation and concentration.

In the production of maltodextrin, if a plate evaporator is used, the hot air discharged from the spray drying tower can be used as a heat source to evaporate and concentrate the syrup before spraying, which can save fresh steam and reduce production costs.

Based on the annual output of 100,000 tons of maltodextrin, 7.5 tons of fresh steam can be saved per hour, that could save the operating cost in a large extent. In the production of ethanol, the use of a plate evaporator and the use of the residual liquid as the environmental pressure for steaming can also reduce the cost of concentrating the residual liquid. The wide application of plate heat exchangers and plate evaporators in corn deep processing not only saves energy and brings economic benefits to enterprises, but also reduces the heat emitted to the atmosphere and reduces the pressure on the environment.
