There are various different kinds of materials for plate heat exchanger gaskets, such as NBR, EPDM EPDM, and FPM, etc. The operating conditions of each material of gasket are different. It is precisely because of the diversity of materials and the diversity of plates that the plate heat exchanger can adapt to various process conditions.
NBR is generally suitable for non-polar media such as alkanes and olefins with temperature higher than -25℃ and lower than 120℃, mineral oils such as light and heavy fuel oils, lubricating oils, animal and vegetable oils, hot water, salt water and other media. EPDM is mainly suitable for superheated water, water vapor, atmospheric ozone, non-petroleum-based lubricating oil, weak acid, weak base, ketone, alcohol and other media with temperature higher than -50℃ and lower than 150℃. FPM is mainly suitable for non-polar mineral oil whose temperature is higher than 0℃ and lower than 180℃, such as pump oil, lubricating oil, etc. It can also be used for food oil. The selection of plate heat exchanger plates and plate heat exchanger gaskets is different based on different conditions.
NBR and EPDM are the most commonly used plate heat exchanger sealing gasket materials. They have great advantages in the low pH of oil, minerals and steam engines, not only has a long service life, but also has a low price. Natural rubber can be used in alkalis, seawater, air, brine and other solutions, but it is not suitable for non-polar solutions or mineral oils. The temperature of media can not exceed 90℃.
