There are various patterns of different shapes for plate heat exchanger plates , and the patterns are an important factor to influence the heat transfer effect of the heat exchanger. The common patterns include herringbone, horizontal and straight , oblique, needle, etc. These patterns can strengthen the disturbance of the fluid in the flow channel and enhance the heat transfer effect.

Taking the herringbone pattern as an example, the herringbone pattern has two types, large angle and small angle, namely H plate and V plate. The angle of pattern determines the pressure loss and heat transfer efficiency of heat exchanger. The H plate will make high flow resistance and the heat transfer efficiency is more higher. On the contrary, the V plate has lower pressure loss and lower heat transfer efficiency.

Therefore, when we select and design the plate heat exchanger, the plate patterns are configured according to the application characteristics. That can choose full H plate, full V plate or H/V combination according to a certain ratio to obtain greater heat transfer efficiency. Thus could save more energy and resources.
