When deciding on the type and size of heat exchanger, it necessary to consider the operation environment. A heat exchanger is not an electrical appliance that ‘creates’ heat; rather, it is a vessel that facilitates the transfer of heat from one medium to another. Therefore, heat exchangers work in conjunction with the other equipment (pumps, boilers, valves, etc.) in the system to ensure the performance.

It’s important to understand the information of temperatures, flow rates and pressure,  as well as maintaining and controlling the parameters stably. This is the key point to confirm and design the overall size of the heat exchanger. It may reduce the heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchangers if we select undersized or oversized types.

Five parameters are required to confirm the size a heat exchanger：

l Flow rates of the hot and cold side fluids

l Inlet temperatures of hot and cold side

l Outlet temperatures of hot and cold side

l Total heat load
